Das Land Myanmar und sein Bildungssystem sind durch eine turbulente Geschichte und eine Wahrnehmung von beruflicher Bildung als „zweite Wahl“ geprägt. Nach einem mehrjährigen Demokratisierungsprozess und weitreichenden Reformen im Berufsbildungsbereich hat das Militär Anfang 2021 erneut die Kontrolle übernommen. Seitdem ist der Zugang zu Bildungsdaten und der Einblick in Reformbestrebungen zusätzlich erschwert. Die Länderstudie bietet einen Überblick in das burmesische Bildungssystem und seine Entwicklung. Dabei liegt der Fokus vorrangig auf der Zeit vor 2021, da die Fortentwicklung des Bildungssystems aufgrund der fortdauernden Militärdiktatur in Myanmar zum Zeitpunkt der Studienveröffentlichung noch unklar ist.

The country of Myanmar and its education system are characterised by a turbulent history and a perception of vocational education as a „second choice“. After several years of democratisation and far-reaching reforms in the vocational education sector, the military took control again at the beginning of 2021. Since then, access to education data and insight into reform efforts has become even more difficult. The country study provides an overview of the Burmese education system and its development. The focus is primarily on the period before 2021, as the further development of the education system is still unclear at the time of publication of the study due to the ongoing military dictatorship in Myanmar.
