Environmental and Health Issues in Unconventional Oil and Gas Development, Second Edition presents a non-partisan perspective on directional drilling and hydraulic fracturing, addressing implications for various stakeholders. The book reviews the transformations in UOGD practices, advancement in monitoring technologies, and the new issues identified by both governmental and non-governmental entities. Key topics include the economics of hydraulic fracturing, methane emissions, decarbonization, and responsibly sourced gas, along with climate risk and mitigation. Water quality and waste impacts are examined, followed by discussions on occupational health, public health, and risk communication. The book also covers environmental justice and corporate governance.

Dr. Debra A. Kaden has more than 25 years' experience in toxicology and environmental health sciences, with emphasis in the area of air toxics. She is a senior practitioner in ENVIRON's Occupational Health and Safety practice. Debra is a member of the International Society for Exposure Science-where she sits on the council-as well as a member of the Society of Toxicology (SOT) and the Society for Risk Analysis (SRA), and serves as president of the New England chapter of SRA. Debra has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed publications in toxicology and environmental health sciences. She has spearheaded critical reviews of the state of science to identify research priorities for understanding exposure and health effects of mobile source air toxics, diesel exhaust and electric and magnetic fields. Debra also has organized and convened workshops and conferences on scientific topics relevant to air pollution.

Eric Hodek is a principal in Ramboll's air quality service line with more than 25 years of experience in environmental permitting and compliance management specializing in air quality management and oil and gas operations. Mr. Hodek is an expert in state and federal air quality regulations under the Clean Air Act and the National Environmental Policy Act. He has prepared hundreds of minor source permits, dozens of major source permits, and several technical studies for environmental impact assessments for major onshore operators. He is active in the evaluation and development of air quality policy. As a principal advisor to Weld County government, he has testified before the Air Quality Control and the Oil and Gas Conservation Commissions on issues regarding regulation of oil and gas facilities. Mr. Hodek holds a M.B.A cum laude from the University of Colorado, and B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Oklahoma.
