We don’t know how to read contemporary art. Informed by hierarchically embedded narratives of the global, current frameworks to read contemporary art are spatially and temporally locked. Mansi Kashatria instead identifies the existence of deep trenches between institutional, curatorial, and artistic practices, and presents a register of radical nuisances that are attentive to hierarchies arranging people and knowledges. Exposing the dangers of digging into the past to rescue the future, the volume follows two institutions: Konsthall C in Stockholm and Kochi-Muziris Biennale in Kerala. In doing so, it reveals those languages that break the assumed wholeness of the global and tell us from where and for whom we reimagine and re-exist.
